There are boats that simply check the boxes, and then there are boats like QUEST—a yacht whose exceptional ownership history, thoughtful upgrades, and meticulous care set her apart from every other Downeast cruiser on the market.
Originally commissioned and enjoyed on the Chesapeake Bay, QUEST was later relocated to the pristine freshwater environment of Lake Champlain, where she spent years under the stewardship of a knowledgeable owner. Her current owners recognized the rarity of this Mark Ellis-designed Legacy 40 and transported her back to the Chesapeake, where she continues to benefit from the same level of attentive care and maintenance. During the past two winters she has been professionally hauled, inspected, and serviced, with any items requiring attention promptly addressed. The result is a truly turnkey yacht ready for her next chapter.
Power comes from a low-hour Cummins 450HP diesel—an ideal single-engine installation renowned for its reliability, efficiency, and ease of maintenance. She is further equipped with an Onan generator, reverse-cycle heat and air conditioning, bow thruster, and a comprehensive canvas package including a cockpit tonneau cover, hardtop extension, and bridge deck enclosure, significantly extending both the cruising and entertaining seasons.
The Legacy 40 is widely regarded as one of the finest Down East express cruisers ever built, and much of that reputation stems from the genius of designer Mark Ellis. Best known for his iconic Nonsuch sailboats, Ellis honed his craft under legendary naval architects Phil Rhodes, Ted Hood, and C&C. His mastery of proportion and sheer line is unmistakable in the Legacy 40's elegant profile, proud bow, and deep-V hull. The result is a yacht that turns heads in every harbor while delivering a remarkably soft, confident ride when conditions deteriorate. Few boats combine beauty, seaworthiness, and efficiency as successfully as the Legacy 40.
